Tomorrow is our 38 week appointment! We're hoping that everything will still be looking good and there won't be any talk about inducing (although, I'm very ready for her to get here!).
I've found myself using Google to search "Ways to Start Labor" haha! who knew about all the old wives' tales? I've been walking regularly...about 1.75 miles a few times a week. This week has been so beautiful, so I got in 3 nice long walks.

Herbs (was taking these, but I was afraid it might have been affecting my blood sugar)

Only 4 More Weeks!
I really really would like to be more regular with this blog...especially since our new baby will be here soon! I love reading other people's oh-so-regular blogs with updates about their sweet families.
So, we hit 36 weeks today! Only 4 more weeks until our due date (April 18). It seems like, however, that my doctors don't really want me to go all the way to our due date. Since I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes (barely) in January...and have required NPH insulin (that's a long-acting insulin) at bedtime, they seem to like the idea of inducing early. Of course, Britt and I are not ok with that...unless there is a true medical indication for it. But so far, I haven't had any other complications from the GD (like pregnancy-induced hypertension) and the baby is growing just fine. She only measured 5 pounds 5 oz at our 35 week ultrasound...which is right on target and only in the 35th percentile. And I also am 2 pounds under my starting weight (due to the super-healthy diabetes diet).
While the idea of a planned induction is somewhat appealing (for planning purposes)...it's not at all what Britt and I have envisioned for an "intervention-free" birth. So in the meantime, I'm just trying to do everything I can to convince her to come on her own. I started walking tonight and walked 1.5 miles. I think tomorrow I'll aim for 2 or so.

It's a GIRL!
So this is about 2 weeks late, but...we're having a GIRL!
We went 2 weeks ago to an ultrasound clinic in Columbus, GA (we were there seeing family and figured it would be a good time). We only did a 2D "gender check" package because I think I'd still like to do the 3/4D when I'm further along. It lasted about 20 minutes or so and she showed us everything :) After taking some measurements and such, she typed on her screen "It's a..." and asked me if I was ready to know. When she typed GI....I couldn't believe it! Not for one second! Britt and I had totally convinced ourselves that it was going to be a boy, so we were shocked to say the least! My mom went with us, and she and I couldn't stop crying! Britt was pretty quiet...but what else is new?! I think the idea of a girl is growing on him. But he did say later that he was just hoping for another boy in the house...he's outnumbered by far now with our pets :)
We went back to my Aunt Kit's house and handed everyone a little white envelope. Each envelope had an index card inside, but only one had a PINK index card. My Aunt Kit got the lucky card and waved it around :)

BIG News!!
First of all...I commit to being a little more regular in my posting...I can't believe that it's been since July!
OK....Now for the BIG news.....
We're having a BABY!
That's right! Baby Davis should make his/her appearance around April 18!
I had my 12 week doctor's appointment yesterday, and we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. Wow. Very cool :) At first I heard my own and then just a few seconds later there was one much much faster! It kinda sounded like a little washing machine :)
Telling B
This was a little less exciting than I always thought it would be...Basically I tested very early, saw nothing and threw it away. I just happened to glance at it again after I brushed my teeth and saw a VERY faint line...So telling B went something like this "Come here! Is this is a line?" ...Both of us squinting at it under a light...."B, I think this is a line!" Haha...he wasn't entirely too convinced and wanted to go to sleep! Of course there was no way that I could sleep! I kept waking up to look at it again to be sure that I hadn't dreamed it! Sure enough the next morning the line on a new test was a little darker! I took a digital the next day and.....
Telling Mom
I waited for a week since I had a trip planned home anyways. I made little onesies for my Mom and brother that said "Fancy loves me" and "I like Mike" I had already told my bff, so she met me at my mom's house to take pictures. I told my mom that I had a "prize" for her and gave her a little pink bag to unrap. When she saw it, she said, "Oh Heather, this is cute" but it didn't sink in for another second or two. Then the crying started! She also wanted to call EVERYONE she knew to tell them that she was going to be a "Fancy/Grandmommy"
M was less impressed with his package...haha...but what can you expect from a 21 year old?!
Telling My Students
This was by far the funniest "telling" experience. I think many of them suspected it anyways because I had been talking with another pregnant teacher at my school so much, and I'm sure they overheard. But after taking a day off for our sonogram, I came back to school. In my third period, a girl asked if I went to the doctor yesterday, I told her that I did. She asked what the doctor said...haha...so I'm pretty sure she knew! I told the class that he said I was having a baby! They were all very excited!
One girl said, "I knew it!! That's why you was so sick and nasty looking yesterday!" Ahh...really? I didn't know I looked that bad! Another said, "I knew it too. Every time my mom is pregnant she's really crabby!" So apparently I started the school year "sick, nasty looking, and crabby". Lovely.
The boys were pretty interested too...more than I thought 16/17 year olds would be. They wanted to know how many "weeks" I was...haha. Another one said, "Mrs. Davis, I know like not right now, but later, when the baby gets bigger, can I talk to it?" Uhhhh. Absolutely not.
Anyways, they're all still excited. The like to ask me about names and what I'm hoping for. So funny :)

Mason at 6 Months
This is Clint and Lori's baby, Mason. Clint and Britt grew up together in south GA, and Lori and I have become good friends over the past few years. I love taking Mason's pictures! He is such a ham :) He wasn't in the best mood at the beginning of our session, but then Lori called his Nana, and things took a turn for the better! Mason loves his Nana!!

A Fun Weekend!!
We had company this weekend!! It is so rare when someone makes the long drive up to our house in northwest Alabama, so we were so excited when my cousin Caroline and her new fiance, Jonathan, came to visit us.
Caroline and Jonathan took engagement pictures with Ann Wade Parrish (also my wedding photographer!) in Birmingham on Friday afternoon. I met them at the park in Birmingham as they were finishing up with AWP. After they were done, we drove to my house. The puppies (ours) and Caroline's boxer (Ruby) and terrier (Will) all got along fairly well. Tonka has turned into a bit of a grump since we don't get to the B'ham dog park for him to practice his manners :) And I think Will might have gotten swatted a time or two by our kitty. Overall, everything went great with the puppies.
We had dinner at the little Mexican place here...poor Jonathan planned on getting a giant margerita before I reminded him that our county is dry. Groan. Caroline and I stayed up all night talking wedding plans (theirs is in October) and the boys watched a Netflix that I had been boycotting...A History of Violence...no thank you.
Saturday, we all poked around the different shops around town and then ate some yummy bbq. Caroline and I went to the grocery to buy stuff for dinner and my yummy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. We spent the afternoon baking and playing the Wii :) Lots of fun. After a nap on a rainy afternoon, we grilled steaks and had a very yummy dinner. Good wine and good company :)
Today, B and I went to Birmingham to get my birthday present!! New Deck Furniture!! I'm so excited! B is sitting in the bedroom (why the bedroom?) now putting the stuff together :) Can't wait to post pictures!

July is here!
I can't believe that the first month of my summer is almost over :( It went by too fast!
This weekend B and I are heading down to his family's house for the Fourth. I am so excited because we haven't been down since January. It's a pretty long drive (about 7-8 hours).
I've been reading a lot on ILP trying to learn to take better pictures. A few months ago, I posted some that I took of the babies last time we were in Valdosta, and I got some very honest constructive criticism...which I probably needed! I'm taking some more this weekend (Gavin's 9 mo and Mason's 6 mo), so I'm hoping to post some better ones this time around.
Here are some from this spring that I've been working on lately...
In this one, the lighting is bad b/c they were in full sun. He's squinting, and there are shadows everywhere, but I still like it.
